British Literature Class Notes -- February 20 (Week 6)

Greetings!

We  had a wonderful discussion this week about our Dickens book, Great Expectations.  This is our longest literature selection this semester.  Often, the first few chapters of a new author are a bit challenging, but once we get used to his style, the reading goes more quickly.

We began class with some Pre-Discussion Writing with these questions:
1.  Dickens wrote this novel as a memoir.  How does this add to the authenticity of the story?
2.  Describe Pip's and Joe's relationship.
3.  What is the name of Miss Havisham's house?  How is it significant?
4.  How does Joe understand his wife's character?  What does this tell about  both Joe and Mrs. Gargery.
5.  When did Pip become aware of his common-ness?  How does this affect him?

We do not have CHAT classes next week.  The next time we have class is March 6.

Assignments for March 6
-- Read to page 198 in Great Expectations
-- Come up with 3 Pre-Discussion Questions to share with the class.
