We've come to another end of another good year and semester at CHAT. This last class was a bit bittersweet for me. It feels good to be at the end of a successful semester, but it was also the last class that I would have with students with whom I've worked for the past 3 years. Some are graduating while some are going to to do PSEO. I will miss each of them.
We began our class with our final literature discussion about our final book, The 39 Steps by John Buchan. One of the first espionage novels written at the start of World War I, the students found the book interesting, though at times a bit slow-paced in comparison to our 21st century literature.
We played a little Bingo game as a review of what we had read and discussed as a class. I had "prizes," British-themed books that I had found at a used book sale. I ended the class with a "rapped" version of Dr. Seuss's Oh, the Places You'll Go. (Here's a much better "rapped" version.)
I have really enjoyed teaching this class and this group of students. They were wonderful in their discussions and always brought insightful questions for the class to think about. My hope is that with this bit of a survey of British Literature will encourage them to read some more classics written by those well-known English writer.
